Research Project
Analysis and modelling of the possible contribution from the astrophysical environment and outer space phenomena to the Earth’s climatic changes.
Supervisor:
Dr. Geoffrey O. Okeng’o – University of Nairobi
Whereas there has been greater emphasis on human induced climate change, climate also varies naturally over short and long periods of time. Over the years climate has varied in cyclical predictable patterns. A number of trends exhibited are connected to astrophysical phenomena such as fluctuations in the sun’s radiative output, modifications in the Earth’s orbit and influx of material such as energetic particles, cosmic rays which interact with the Earth’s atmospheric layers. We are carrying out a detailed assessment, analysis and modeling of the possible contribution from the astrophysical environment and outer space phenomena to the Earth’s climatic changes.
